Design Thinking Project - Smart Campus Data Solution: Improving Student Experience through Data

28 December, 2025 | Project

Description

This is arguably the toughest assignment we got so far, which is the full Design Thinking philosophies that applies to almost every career prospects, ranging from entreprenuers, software developers, engineering etc. Group 5, which is called Error 404 is tasked to solve Topic 9 : Student Mental Health Insights, which we are focusing more into the cause and effects, and ways to mitigate and reduce the devastating effect of uncontrollable mental health crisis.

According to the assignment brief, we are tasked to complete 3 parts of assessment, mainly Report, Video and Presentation. There are 5 phases involved in design thinking, which are:

  • Phase 1: Emphatize
  • Phase 2: Define
  • Phase 3: Ideate
  • Phase 4: Prototype
  • Phase 5: Test

Throught these 5 weeks, we learnt to brainstorm, survey, create and prototype app ideas to solve the existing problems that student faces throughout their study. The task distribution are as follows:

  • Lead/Editor: Hafiz
  • Analyst/Writer: Fariza
  • Designer: Gan Mei Lee

Reflection

What I Gained

In these 5 weeks, I learn to be more patience, and lead the team in each phase, assisting them when needed especially during the Test Week. Not only that, this project opened my eyes into the reality of problem solving, which is paramount in my 4 year journey as a Data Engineering student @ UTM. All the phases serves as a wake up call on how much skill I lack in project development despite having the knowledge of developing a solution from scratch.

Areas for Improvement

The video can be improved by a mile, if the time allows. The tight deadlines and the upcoming quizzes and test restrict me from putting my 100% into the video, resulting my best potential learning to be an editor diminished

Final Thoughts

This project serves as the starting point for me to think analytically, and open my mind to listen, collaborate and solve problem as a team. This Design Thinking project has taught me that Great Things Takes Time. and I'm looking forward to implement this knowledge and experience in the near future.
